Present from Colossus

I stopped by Lonny's house after work to pick up Colossus.
When I arrived there was an envelop decorated with a black Sharpie pen that had "BBT" (see previous post) bordering around the envelope sitting right next to Colossus.
And in the center a FOR: CHUCK (Lonny's nickname for me) and another small note in the center that said "Early B-Day present. Go get your pot"

I open it and it is cash!

Lonny comes in and said Colossus hustled some cash to get me a birthday present.

Sooo in pot he doesn't mean the smoking kind...you know you thought it!

He meant a Dutch Oven cast iron 5 quart pot!

I have been wanting a 5 quart cast iron pot for so long.
But let's face it, what I really wanted was a 5 quart Le Creuset pot and while I COULD afford it, I just could never bring myself to pay $200+ for a pot.
I'd rather spend that cash on something materialistic like clothes, cosmetics, shoes, jewelery...ect.

So yesterday while shopping with one of my BFF's in the home department at Macy's, we came across Martha Stewarts line that was 50% off!

Originally $99 but on sale for $49 and does exactly the same thing the brand name Le Creuset does!

We were planning on going shopping on Saturday so I mentioned I was going to buy it.

He beat me to it... or should I say "Colossus" beat me to it!

So right away we headed back to Macy's and picked up this bad boy...

I had a hard time figuring out what color I wanted. There was a navy blue, grey/brown-ish tone, citrus yellow but more on the darker yellow, and a Shrek-ish (the cartoon) green and of course the beige shade I ended up with. I considered choosing the yellow one because my kitchen is lemon yellows. But ultimately I choose the beige shade knowing I change my kitchen colors every so often. I can never stick to a color for any of my rooms so I picked one that would match everything.

It is SOOOOO heavy! It is induction safe (my stove-top), electric safe, and gas safe. It is also oven safe up to 450F (232C).

I have a 2 quart oval Le Creuset dutch oven that I've used many times and love it. But needed a bigger pot.

Side by side!

I can't wait to use this to make stew! It also came with a lamb shank & potato recipe that I'm intrigued to try out.

Thanks Colossus - Mommy LOVES it!
XOXO

Ah thats brilliant. I think kitchen items like these are worth the $$$ because you will have that pot until the day you kick it. You will make dinner for your husband and children in these pots on cold winters day. Then, one day, many years from now, your children will tell their children about the gorgeously divine dinners you used to make for them. With every meal the memories will grow... I know its sappy but I honestly see items like these as time capsules. I have a vase that was my mums great Aunties and when I put flowers in it I wonder about the flowers my Aunty Dorry put in it. Did she like roses, or daisies. Right now that vase is in my bedroom and it has hot pink and bright yellow roses in it. Photo frames, vases, lamps, kitchen ware will all stand the test of time and be passed on to our kids and grand kids. Its a lovely thought isnt it.
Ok sappy blah blah blah is over now.

@ Sooz - You are my sweet friend! I definitely will pass these down to my children one day. I can't wait to be in the kitchen teaching them my secret recipes to pass down to their children as well. Hopefully I'll have my own little family soon. So sweet! You should do a blog post of your great aunts vase! See, I just gave you an idea for a blog post. TEEHEE. XOXO

@ Holly - If you go to Macy's they might still be on sale. If not its still not badly priced. You know the Sunday newspaper always has coupons for Macy's too!

@ I've seen a couple Le Creuset items at Marshalls, Ross and TJ Maxx/Home Goods. I always forget their discounted there too! Thanks for the idea! :) XOXO
