The house that doesn't sleep...

It's 6:10am and we're up.
None of us received an ounce of winks or even rest last night.
All we've had were worry restless night of tossing and turning.

I truly feel horrible for Lonny who has it the worst.
Yesterday when all he should have done was rest after his surgery, he's done nothing but help me super clean the house (what I do when I'm stressed) and run to the emergency room back & forth for Colossus.

Around 7pm last night we were able to pick him up from the vet.
The doctor on call told us he's been having up & down moments of confusion.
And even growling at the vets/vet techs causing them to wonder if they need to sedate him.
But even with that confusion his health was improving slightly.
We aren't certain if he ate something.
I wish I knew. Not knowing makes it harder.
Bad as it sounds I'd rather have him eat something then this be a neurological disease.

Colossus regular doctors (two) went home as their shift ended.
And he was left with a new vet & staff that he's never or rarely been around.
He was really scared hence why he was growling and acting up.
But our groomer, Ronnie, (who shared the same office as the vet) got wind of this, she stayed with him as long as she could.
She got him to lay down and calm down for a bit.
Which helped because he had a fever.

It really breaks my heart because he was scared and helpless and I couldn't be there to comfort him.
But thankful she was there and did this.

I truly love love love our vet office.
Expensive as they may be, they are worth all the money to keep my baby safe & healthy.
The new (to us) vet on call usually brings her little dog into work.
She asked Ronnie to do something new with her dogs look.
Sooooo this is the new look...

Don't worry... the dye is dog safe, obviously.
She kept telling her dog that Colossus is a true BLUE dog as that is his coloring.
He's a classified blue Miniature Pincher.

So the option that evening was:
1. We could leave him overnight with the overnight vet to monitor him.
OR
2. Bring him home and monitor him ourselves.

The vet recommended we bring him home because he seemed calmer around people he knew.
We obviously decided to bring him home.
Also we had to keep his catheter in just in case he needed to be re-hooked up to an IV.
So he had to wear an Elizabethan collar to avoid yanking his IV out.
All we had to do was get through the night and return at 7am to have the catheter removed after a check up.

That was it, right?
Wrong.
He was sooo excited and squirmy to see me when the vet tech brought him out.
I almost cried because when we left the first time he was limp & lethargic.
To see him with such energy made my heart feel a little better.
He looked so pathetically cute with his e-collar.

He ate some dinner.

But cute as he was, he could NOT get comfortable in bed.
The collar scares him and causes him to be confused.
He likes to sleep under the covers, but for obvious reasons he couldn't.
He would try to go under and once under he just stood there...
Like "what now?"
Finally after 15 min of trying to find a comfortable position he found one.

No joke, we slept like this for as long as he didn't move.
I have a pinched neck nerve too - since last Tuesday. Managed to turn my head too fast or something, and it has just been SO uncomfortable for the past 2 days.
It's on the mend, thankfully, but sleeping in that position didn't help it either.
I stayed like that though just cause I wanted him to be comfortable.
And also because I could hear him breathing still.
Yes, I know... worrisome mother to be one day.

He moved around all night long though.
Both Lonny and I were making sure he wouldn't fall off the bed.

And when the alarm went off at 6am, we both felt like we got 5 min of sleep.
Dragged ourselves out of bed.
I didn't bother with makeup.
Drove to the bakery as I wanted to get crossiants for the vet staff and chocolate cookies for Ronnie, the groomer.
Went to the vet and the vet tech gave him an a-ok to remove the catheter.
He seemed like he's back to normal this morning.
Pulling on his lead and even ate breakfast.
He seemed to improve a lot more once the collar was removed too.

We came home and took an hour and 20 min nap.
But our morning wasn't done yet.
Lonny had a 10:40am appointment across the opposite side of town with his doctor to check out how his toe is healing.
The doctor said he seems to be healing nicely and should be able to return to work next Sunday.

And then we came home.
Colossus is sleeping on my lap as I type this out book.
Seemed like he's 95-98% better.
I won't really think he's 100% till he starts playing with his toys and is more active.

OTHER NEWS:
Managed to feel yet a 3rd earthquake today in the past 3 days.
Wednesday evening at 10:30pm/11pm I felt one that was 2.8.
Thursday RIGHT before the doctor started Lonny's surgery there was a 4.1 earthquake.
And today at 11:35am it was 3.8.
Hopefully this is just releasing built up energy in small amounts so we don't have a huge quake like the 1989 one.
That was a horrible one as I was all alone and only 11 years old.

Totally breaks my heart to hear what you have been going through with your little doggy :( They are like little babies, aren't they? Poor little thing! But, I'm so glad he's home now and can get all better with you guys :)

Scary stuff with the earthquakes! I remember experiencing two of those while living in LA back in the day...
I hope it will stop soon.<3

@ Michelle - thanks sweetie! Yes, he definitely is my child and knows it. All last night he's only wanted Mommy. Heart warming but at the same time stressful. I love this little guy so much! But very relieved he's doing better. XOXO
