Lonny and I finally went cake testing.
Probably my favorite part of the wedding process other than trying on different dresses!

| 15 flavor to try! |
Coffee in hand we met the owner and bakery chef who will be creating our cake.
Because we have about 150-180 guests we ended up with a four tier cake!
HOLY MOLY!
Since there are four layers we decided we would each pick two flavors.
After tasting 15 different cakes - trust me, it was hard restraining myself from licking the plate - we ended up with our flavors.
You can really see where Lonny and I differ in our taste palette for sweets.
I'm definitely on the lighter side:
Triple Vanilla Cake: Vanilla white cake filled with vanilla Bavarian Cream and frosted iwth vanilla butter-cream.
Strawberry Grand Marnier Cake: Vanilla genoise filled with fresh strawberries and Grand Marnier whipped cream
And Lonny has a very rich deep palette:
Red Velvet Cake: Faintly chocolate flavored cake tined with red food coloring and filled with our sweetened cream cheese filling and finished with vanilla butter-cream.
Devil's Food Cake: Devil food cake with chocolate mousse filling, frosted with vanilla butter-cream.
The bottom layer (one we're cutting) will be the Vanilla - Lonny brought up a good point that vanilla is neutral for those who don't like overly sweet cakes.
So our guests can have a pick of their flavor but making vanilla the main cut.
Second layer is the Fresh Strawberry Grand Marnier.
Third layer is Red Velvet and the topping is the Devil's Food.
I had saved a couple cake pictures from Pinterest and we both agreed on this cake style.
I sent color swatches of our wedding colors for the cake.
Everything but the center brown swatch. Ombre daffodil to yellow to cream!
A few similar ombre cakes in our colors but the style is not what we're picking.
I like how the pink ombre cake is smooth.
So with that our cake is set and I'm excited to see the final masterpiece.
