I was craving pizza the other day but I don't like regular ole pizza with red sauce.
I'm more... 'creative' when it comes to pizza.
My favorite pizza joint is a place called Pizza Antica where they have delicious thin crust gourmet pizzas.
Decided to make a pear pizza to chomp on while watching the 1st episode of Lost season 6!
(SO EXCITED LOST IS ON!!!)
Lonny is a better at making the dough than me but since he's not here to make it for me, I cheated!
I bought a premade pizza bread!
BOBBOLI!
Which worked out great because I'm not in the real cooking mood.
Let's get started...
Ingredients:
Bobboli pizza
1 large onion sliced
Olive oil
2 tablespoon butter
Kosher salt
Pepper
2 tablespoon Red Wine Vinegar
Gorgonzola cheese
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 large pear sliced thinly
You want to caramelized the onions.
Slice the onions.
Put butter & oil in a pan.
Throw in the onions and cover for 10 minutes under medium low heat.
After 10 minutes take the cover off and add salt, pepper and the red wine vinegar.
By now the house smells like onions!
Keep on medium low heat and let it sautee for another 20 minutes.
Turn it down lower if it's sizzling a lot. You want it to sautee and not burn to a crisp.
After 20 minutes turn the heat off and set aside.
Let's work on the pizza now!
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.
Open your Bobboli pizza
Put it on baking pan or a pizza round for a crisper bite.
Drizzle olive oil on the pizza.
Using a swivel peeler pare the skin off the pear (HAHA - that sounds funny!)
Slice the pear up thinly.
So now you're ready to assemble your pizza!
Take your crumble Gorgonzola cheese and sprinkle it over the pizza.
Then sprinkle the sliced pears on top of the cheese.
Sprinkle the chopped walnuts.
Now the fun yummy part! The caramelized onions!
MmMmMm
Sprinkle more walnuts on top and I had left over freshly grated Pecorino Parmesan cheese from the night before so I sprinkled a bit on the top as well.
Pop it in the oven at 450 degree for 15-20 min.
Keep your eye on it!
When it's done it should look like this...
